Friday Fictioneers – The kiss

PHOTO PROMPT © Rowena Curtin

The kiss was overpowering in its intensity, its delicious wrongness. That much she remembers. She lifts her fingers to swollen lips, feeling the bruise left by the urgency.

Her husband continues to read his newspaper. Will he notice the wound? Does he at already know?

What happened after the kiss, she’s not sure. There were drinks, many drinks. Perhaps the story playing in her head is only something she’d read.

  1. I just hope she wasn’t kissing the mystery man inside the charity bin (subject of the photo), and that the husband keeps his nose in his newspaper . However, perhaps the husband spends more time reading newspapers than talking with his wife. It takes two to tango and I’m reminded of a movie with John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtin. I think it was a Fish Called Wanda. Well done, Neil.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

  2. Neil, I agree with Subroto’s comment above.
This left me with a great many questions about what might have happened and how and if there’s
a lover or is it a drunken wild night and why her husband isn’t concerned or mentioning her injury.
YIKES … bravo for writing this so well.

  3. This is sad and beautiful. To experience such a life altering kiss, not from your husband, who seems totally oblivious to you, before and after the kiss. So sad. But, wow, it’s life, isn’t it? Excellent piece, Neil.
