Friday Fictioneers – The Apology

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

My dearest Alice

My heart yearns to be with yours;. you who complete me and who fate has allocated as my future helpmeet. Merely think of you, and there comes a hammering in my chest. Never was love truer, I swear. There is, however, one small slipped stitch in this tapestry of bliss. I fear I cannot cross the river and take tea with you this Friday, the North Bridge being in wind what the Hellespont is in water. Between you and I, an uncrossable gulf yawns.

I am your humble servant

John

  1. Ah, that simple slipped stitch in a tapestry of bliss. Lovely. Having just completed a chapter where a gentleman gallantly claims he will never tell his coming child it was a mistake, your story today made me smile.

  2. Oh what a missive to recieve! Nicely written. I wonder if he was truly upset to miss the appointment or if this was the only letter he sent to a lady? Is that too cynical ? Hopefully it is well meant and he will see them again soon
