Friday Fictioneers – Bears

No. I won’t.

No, I can hear you perfectly well from where I am. You may say I’m up a tree without a paddle. But you can skedaddle. Just how much use do you suppose a paddle is in a tree, eh?

I can see for miles and miles and miles. As many coconuts as I can eat. And no bear’s going to get me. Jagulars maybe. Strorny good droppers, jagulars, as Pooh remarked. But not bears. You, on the other hand, are extremely vulnerable to roving ursines.

So, which of us would you say is crazy?

Friday fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fields to write a 100-word story in response to a photo prompt. You can find other stories at the link below

  1. I always look forward to reading your Friday Fictioneers stories, and the title of this one made it even more enticing. After all, what could bears have to do with the prompt?
And the story is a delight, with its whimsical debate as to who is craziest, and its references to Winnie the Pooh. Lovely writing, Neil!

  2. I loved this whimsical story and, of course, your reference to Pooh. No person is crazy if they live by Pooh’s rules. Your character has all they need; food, a view, and a safe place from Jagulars ” (Heffalumps and Woozles too I bet).

  3. I think I have some reading to do, haven’t read Winnie the Pooh either. If you don’t know the context, it does sound crazy indeed. 🙂

  4. Wonderful story. I so enjoyed the Pooh allusion. My grandson was such a fan when he was little – I Ioved reading the Pooh stories to him. And as for crazy – maybe we all need a little of that craziness.
