When the door in the sky opened, I wasn’t scared. Awestruck, yes, wondering if hosts of angels prepared to descend. Perhaps there were even trumpets; or that may have been the sound of engines of uncanny power reversing as beguiling visitors arrived.
“Why are you pulling over?” Mabel asked.
“Don’t you see it? Can’t you feel the rapture?”
“Shall I take over the driving?”

Haha! Mabel better take over. Cosmic interference with an earthly twist. 🙂

Dear Neil,
In the event of the rapture I’m not sure there will be that much time for discussion. Zoom!

Rochelle

Time for Mabel to drive… towards? or away? hmm.

As you just said, we had similar ideas. That poor, over tired driver… lol

Sounds like someone expects to be “left behind” very much un-raptured!

She’s innured to being left behind

Well, if I’m raptured and you’re not, then yes, you’d better drive. 😉

Or maybe she saw what he didn’t- glad she took over the wheels!
Safe driving!

Feels like the rapture when staring into a million candle watts of light baring down on you! Nice one, Neil.

Probably best if he takes a rest. Having said that, the A9 is a notoriously dangerous road, anything could happen.

Nice that someone here knows the A9

Perhaps the driver is going without Mabel.
Sure Mabel, you drive, you are going a different route anyway.

This made me smile – I’d probably react the same way as Mabel!

An imaginative story, with a good twist. You play nicely on the distinction between rapture and the rapture described by Christian eschatology

Thanks so much, Penny. I’m pleased you noticed the play with rapture

Rapture may indeed sadly not be for Mabel. Not just yet maybe

I like the ambiguity here. Looks like they will be parting ways one way or another. A description of something I hope never to experience whatever the reality of it is.

Perfectly practical Mabel. I’d pull over too, time for a snooze when the rapture rocks up, eh. Great story!

For the sake of everyone, Mabel must drive.
As far as “feeling” rapture, my definition has little to do with the sky opening up. 🙂

I have had this ethereal experience, an hypnotic trance of following red lights at night. I couldn’t take it no more. Woke up in a lay-by with my head on the steering wheel. How did I get there? Angels?

Definitely angels. Or maybe demons

Regardless of what’s going on in the sky, if he’s not watching the road, he shouldn’t be driving.

Mind you, if he suddenly disappears I’m not sure what she’ll think!

Oddly, though he infuriates her, she’d be bereft if he suddenly disappeared
