This realm is not the only one. So says old Fergus. “Is this supposed to be news?” I ask derisively. “Have I not trekked over high mountains and through raging rivers to the land of the Karmon?” But Fergus explains, with a patient laugh, that he wasn’t referring to journeys across the earth, but rather meant journeys up and down. When I seem confused, he adds, “Into the heavens and down to the underworld.”
“Do the spirits in the sky also dream of travelling?” I ask.
“Of course,” he says. “They crave the substance of meat and the mirth of beer.”
Of the realm of the dead, we spoke not.

Dear Neil,
Who knows what the spirits think. This works as well as any theory. 😉

Good story. I’d stick with Fergus but keep an eye on him!

A party with the spirits of the air would be something. Probably better than in the underworld.

They are prone to create havoc though

Yes, I’d hate to think this was the only realm. I’m coming round to the idea that this might be some sort of a punishment realm… though that’s only come upon me lately. I too liked the last line. Well done.

Thanks so much, Sandra. I think it’s not impossible that we are living in the underworld

I’m left with a song playing in my mind – ‘goin’ up to the spirit in the sky’!

Except in this case the spirits are being summoned down

Oh this is marvellous. A chat between mates. Things to ponder. I do wonder what turns the conversation might have made if they had discussed the realm of the dead. But a great line to end it on.

I really liked how you led us to this “substance of meat and the mirth of beer….” – a perk of being human eh?

Oh Fergus has some stories to tell and seems to relish in one upping his friend who has only travelled laterally. Enjoyed this, and yes lets not speak of the dead.

I like the idea of journeys up and down as opposed to linear journeys across the earth. Although “they” crave the substance of meat and the mirth of beer
