Friday Fictioneers – Toy Boy

PHOTO PROMPT © Dale Rogerson

Call her Tiamat, call her Leviathan, also known as Jörmungandr or Cirein-cròin. Old as the primordial ocean, she is a creature of the roiling water—the essence of creation and chaos.

I call her Kraken, but not, of course, to her face. When she finishes swimming laps (three), she’ll expect me poolside with a soft towel and cool drink. And I will smile and caress her, though my skin crawls with revulsion at her flabby, wrinkled flesh.

Not long now. All she has to do is sign the will and then she can be one with the waves again.

Friday fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fields to write a 100-word story in response to a photo prompt. You can find other stories here

  1. ‘At one with the waves’ indicates your protagonist might be haunted by what he’s about to do – and so a story flows onward. Let’s hope The Kraken awakes 🙂 and has a sharp-witted lawyer drawing up that will of hers. Great fun stuff.

  2. Not the kindest and most caring of escorts, but a soft towel and a cool drink have a lot going for them when you’ve been slogging it out in the pool. Any Kraken worthy of the name will see that.

  3. I love how this story opens as though the ‘she’ is a mythical creature but then reveals she’s just a monster to the narrator. It brought me right into the narrator’s unhappy and devious mind.

      1. Did it end up trashed or spammed? Or did I press erase instead of post 🤔.

So yesh, a nice reversal of roles here. Waiting out for the payload… Hoping there’s no change in the will they don’t know about!
