What do we need the gods for now? Oh, they strut and fume as we tear down their statues and temples. Zeus releases a stream of thunderbolts which fizzle and spark before plopping spent on the carpet. A mist of angels wring their little hands before evaporating. Legba holds a weeping Inti close as they thin and dissipate.
We are the masters now. The steam from our great engines blows across a sun hiding its face in shame.
If only the rains would come as they used to.

It sounds as though the Gods are taking matters into their own hands. The upper ones.

Good prose, Neil. The Gods will have the last say. It’s ironic how blind, arrogant, and short-sighted naked apes are.

Perhaps a silent prayer to the Rain God is the answer. I am sure the Greek Gods were a marketing ploy at the time by the many sculptors who set the fiction in stone.

Dear Neil,
Good question. What do we need the gods for.

Everyone knows rain is the tears of the gods. We just need to make them sad, instead of angry.

A great story about hubris, Neil. Maybe we’ll be in this situation when there is nothing but data centers blanketing the planet.
